Effects of substrate bias on magnetocrystalline anisotropy Ku of CoPt thin films with increasing Pt content

چکیده
The magnetocrystalline anisotropy Ku of continuous Co1−xPtx alloy films peaks at 30 at. % of Pt. Further increase in Pt at. % decreases Ku quickly probably due to the increasing density of stacking faults SFs and the fcc phases. The effect of substrate bias has been studied in various compositions of CoPt films. Ku increases from 8 10 6 to 1.1 107 ergs /cm3 when 50 V bias was applied to Co60Pt40 films and decreases with further increase in bias. Pt at. % slightly increases from 40 to 43 at. %, which is opposed to the initial Ku increase. However, the SF density and the fcc content are greatly reduced in the biased samples. The transmission electron microscopy images of the biased films show less faulted atomic planes in the hcp CoPt grains. Such improvement in structural defects helps increase Ku in magnetic thin films. © 2009 American Institute of Physics. DOI: 10.1063/1.3067558

Achievement of Diverse Domain Structures in Soft Magnetic Thin Film through Adjusting Intrinsic Magnetocrystalline Anisotropy
Oriented soft magnetic hcp-Co1 - x Ir x films with a fixed thickness of 120 nm were fabricated. All prepared films exhibit soft magnetic properties but various magnetocrystalline anisotropies with the variation of Ir content. The measured data shows that diverse domain structures including the Néel wall, Bloch wall, and stripe domains present in a fixed film thickness. It is singular for the si...

متن کاملMicroscopic origin of the reduced magnetocrystalline anisotropy with increasing oxide content in Co80Pt20:oxide thin films
Angle-dependent x-ray magnetic circular dichroism at the Co L2.3 edges has been utilized to systematically study Co80Pt20 : WO3 perpendicular magnetic recording thin films, in which the magnetocrystalline anisotropy significantly drops as the oxide volume fraction increases. The microscopic origin of this phenomenon in the studied films can be mainly attributed to an increase in orbital moment ...

Reorientation in the magnetic anisotropy as a function of film thickness has been observed in Co-Ni and Co thin films, obliquely sputtered on a polyethylene terephthalate substrate at a large incidence angle ~70°!. This effect is a consequence of the low magnetocrystalline anisotropy of the films ~fcc structure of Co! and changes in microstructure from nuclei to columns according to the thickne...
